7Artisans is teasing a new lightweight (≈90g) lens that will be officially announced on January 27th. I am pretty sure this is the previously reported 7Artisans AF 40mm f/2.5 FF (Sony and Viltrox both already have 40mm f/2.5 lenses):

The upcoming Leica Noctilux M 35mm f/1.2 lens is rumored to be priced at €9,000 in Europe. I am not sure about the US pricing, since President Trump is threatening Europe with new tariffs that will directly increase the price of all Leica products in the US again.

The Leica Noctilux M 35mm f/1.2 lens is rumored to be announced on January 29th.

This is the first leaked picture of the upcoming Viltrox lens for L-mount:

The first two Viltrox lenses for L-mount are rumored to be:

Viltrox joined the L-Mount Alliance in September, 2025:

The previously reported Noctilux M 35mm f/1.2 lens is rumored to be announced on January 29th, 2026, which aligns with the pattern of new Leica products being released on Thursdays. Stay tuned for updates.

Here is some additional information on the previously reported SG-Image AF 35mm f/2.2 pancake lens for E/Z/L mount (SG-Image lenses are sold on AmazoneBay, and AliExpress):

  • Focal length: 35mm
  • Maximum aperture: f/2.2
  • Autofocus: Yes
  • Metal square lens hood included
  • Foor E/Z/L mount
  • The Sony E & Nikon Z versions will be released in late January, and the L-mount will probably come in February/March
  • The visual design of the final version may change (the lens top displayed should only show “xxmm Fx.x”)
  • Available in both silver and black
  • A Nikon SE design version will be released later

7Artisans is teasing a new lens for Leica M-mount – here are the clues:

  • Classic portrait distance
  • Dreamy, creamy boken
  • Familiar yet refined, now perfected
  • Easier to handle, smoother focus

Maybe a new 75mm f/1.25?

Update – the new lens will be 7Artisans M 75mm f/1.25 II:

Light Lens Lab will soon release a new 75mm f/2 “SP-II” lens for Leica M-mount. Please note that the informtion in this post is based on a prototype, and everything is subject to change before release (previous coverage of LLL lenses can be found here).

The Light Lens Lab 75mm f/2 SP II lens is based on the legendary Cooke Speed Panchro Series II, a classic cinema lens from the 1940s known for its distinctive soft, glowing “Cook look” and dreamlike quality, optimized by LLL for modern full-frame digital sensors while preserving that vintage Hollywood aesthetic:

Sample photos from the upcoming Light Lens Lab 75mm f/2 SP II lens for Leica M-mount:

Light Lens Lab will continue expanding the “SP-II” series with several other focal lengths:

  • 21mm
  • 28mm
  • 35mm
  • 50mm
  • 75mm
  • 90mm APO
  • 135mm SAPO

Additional information on the original Cooke Speed Panchro Series II lens:

  • History: The original Speed Panchro lenses were the industry standard for Hollywood motion picture production from the 1930s through the 1950s. They were used to shoot films such as Casablanca, The Sound of Music, Psycho, and The Godfather.
  • Produced by Taylor, Taylor & Hobson (now Cooke Optics) in Leicester, England.
  • Series II: The “Series II” designation refers to the updated versions released in the mid-20th century (specifically the 1940s-50s) which improved upon the original Series I designs.
  • Cinema to Stills: While the original was designed for 35mm motion picture film (which is roughly similar in frame size to APS-C/Super 35), the image circle of the 75mm version is large enough to cover full-frame photography sensors (Leica M format), making it a prime candidate for adaptation.

Light Lens Lab previously recreated the 50mm f/2 Speed Panchro II in M-mount – see coverage:

Asobinet spotted a newly published Panasonic patent that shows new variants of the existing 26mm f/2.8 lens:

  • 22mm f/5.6
  • 24mm f/8
  • 28mm f/8

I doubt Panasonic will ever release those 24mm and 28mm f/8 lenses. But a 22mm f/5.6? Now that would actually be an interesting option.

Leica confirms in‑house sensor development, potentially for M12 and SL4

Leica’s CEO Andrea Kaufmann has confirmed that the company is once again developing its own image sensor. After using AMS sensors up to the M10 and switching to Sony sensors for the M11 generation, Leica appears set to return to an in‑house solution—a process that typically spans about five years and is reportedly already well underway. It’s notable to see Leica charting its own path again. The move raises interesting questions about what prompted the shift away from Sony sensors, which continue to set benchmarks for innovation (for example, partially stacked architectures in the A7V and ongoing global shutter advances like those seen in the A9II).Going in‑house could give Leica more control over color science, microlens design tailored for rangefinder optics, and supply chain independence. It could also enable unique feature trade‑offs that better match Leica’s priorities for the M and SL systems. It’s likely the new sensor will find it’s way in the future Leica M12 and SL4 cameras!
