As the second monochrome generation in the Q family, the Leica Q3 Monochrom distils photography to its purest form, capturing only brightness data with its dedicated black-and-white sensor. It captures images at resolutions of 60, 36 and 18 MP across an ISO range from 100 to 200,000, and records video with up to 8K resolution. The design of the Leica Q3 Monochrom stays faithful to the contemporary Q family while embracing the unmistakable monochrome aesthetic. Made in Germany, it exemplifies functional beauty in its design and superb craftsmanship in the tactile quality of its finest materials. The all-metal body and lens hood are finished in black, with engravings – such as the “Monochrom” lettering on the top plate – rendered in understated black or grey, while the leatherette covering features a refined, stylish finish. Finally, the intentional absence of the red Leica logo accentuates the camera’s minimalist design.
The high-resolution 5.76 megapixel OLED viewfinder, rapid and precise hybrid autofocus, and tilting touch display highlight the Leica Q3’s impressive performance capabilities. The Q3 Monochrom offers maximum creative freedom to dedicated black-and-white photographers and filmmakers by allowing them to effortlessly switch to macro mode at a close focus distance of 17 cm and choose between automatic or manual control. The Leica Q3 Monochrom features a well-organised, intuitive user interface with a distinct separation between photo and video functions. Each follows its own colour scheme and, combined with the carefully designed icons and menu navigation, allows for especially intuitive operation. Leica will introduce this new operating concept for Q-Cameras to both the Leica Q3 and the Leica Q3 43 through a firmware update at the end of the year.
The Leica Q3 Monochrom also plays a pioneering role within the Q family through its innovative use of Content Credentials technology. It is the first Q-Camera to offer images with a digital signature compliant with the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), ensuring tamper-proof verification of their origin and any subsequent modifications.
Optional accessories broaden the creative possibilities and enable personalisation of the Leica Q3 Monochrom. The new monochrome camera is compatible with accessories designed for the Leica Q3, further enhancing its functionality. The original Dallmeyer Septac Anastigmat 50mm f/1.5 dates back to the 1950s (with prototypes as early as the late 1920s or 1930s) and was produced by the British optical company J.H. Dallmeyer. It’s a rare cine and still photography lens, originally an option for cameras like the Ilford Witness, and is considered one of the fastest and most coveted 50mm lenses from that era. The design is a 7-element in 4-group Sonnar-type anastigmat, based on earlier innovations like the 1938 Simlar lens. Vintage examples exist in uncoated and coated (e.g., DC coated) versions, with the uncoated ones being particularly rare and prized for their “oil-painting” style bokeh, soft melting highlights, and three-dimensional rendering that doesn’t match modern sharp optics. Originals are extremely scarce, with auction prices reaching around £25,000 (about $32,000 USD) for well-preserved copies.

The Light Lens Lab 35mm f/1.4 Aspherical “11873” lens for M-mount was initially prototyped in 2023 and reviewed by Leica Society International. The lens has been refined with upgraded aspherical and high-refractive ED elements, improved alignment, and optimized performance for modern high-megapixel sensors. A prototype of the 35mm f/1.4 Aspherical “11873” was first completed in 2023 and submitted to Leica Society International for in-depth testing and review. Based on their valuable feedback, we decided to postpone its release to make significant improvements to both the optical design and quality control process. The review of the first prototype of the 35mm f/1.4 Aspherical “11873” has been published by Leica Society International.
Please note that during the review of the 35mm f/1.4 Aspherical “11873,” the lens tested was our first prototype. Over the past two years, we have implemented several key changes to optimize performance for modern high-megapixel sensors. Insights from another optical project—soon to be announced—contributed to the final prototype of the 35mm f/1.4 Aspherical “11873.” After testing the final iteration of the 35mm f/1.4 Aspherical “11873,” we are satisfied and confident in moving forward with production.
Use of ED/Achromatic element and Lanthanide element: effectively reducing distortion, diffraction, and chromatic aberrations. Retains the legendary controlled “glow” characteristic at f/1.4.
In-house production: all mechanical and optical components are designed, manufactured, and assembled entirely in-house.
Changes to Aspherical Element Production: Transition from the use of a ground and polished method to a modern moulded and polished method. This change is due to the implementation of moulded aspherical elements, which enhance precision and optical consistency.
New ED and Achromatic Element: Introduced a high-refractive low-dispersion and Achromatic Element alongside the new aspherical element to reduce distortion, diffraction, and chromatic aberration. At the same time, it maintains the legendary character and characteristics through the use of Lanthanide elements.
Enhanced Quality Control: Improved assembly precision and element spacing—particularly between aspherical and spherical groups—to optimize alignment and image quality. The rear element has been slightly extended for better optical performance, while maintaining full compatibility with M-mount and adapted camera systems.
New Optical Standard: Due to the high-performance aspect of 35mm f/1.4 Aspherical “11873.” The lens represents both a tribute to legendary lens design and characteristics and the foundation for our new high-performance optics series.
Refinements of ASPH Element Production: Improve overall performance, minimize aberrations, and reduce diffraction.
Use of Aviation Grade Aluminum and Titanium Alloy: For long-term usage with durability as priority

The Leica SL3 “Reporter” camera features a scratch-resistant olive-green finish, no red dot, aramid-fabric armoring, black buttons, a black display frame, and black dials. The US price is $7,995 (the regular SL3 version is $7,485). The Reproter edition will include a BP-SCL6 battery, USB-C cable, strap, and a quick-start guide. High Performance Optimization
Coupling a powerful 60MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor with the Maestro IV image processor, the SL3 promises swift focusing performance and excellent image quality with 15 stops of dynamic range and 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization. Improvements to the camera body include a 3.2″ 2.3m-dot tilting touchscreen LCD for dynamic viewing options while capturing imagery, a CFexpress Type B slot and SD UHS-II slot for file-saving versatility, and a reduced weight of 1.7 pounds. Also noteworthy is the SL3’s hybrid autofocusing system, which integrates Phase Detection AF with Contrast Detection AF and Object Detection AF, resulting in reliable performance in a multitude of shooting scenarios. These critical improvements to the camera’s hardware and body have positioned this iteration to leap ahead of its predecessors.
60MP Full-Frame BSI CMOS Sensor and Maestro IV Processor
At the front and center of the SL3’s notable upgrades are its 60MP full-frame BSI CMOS sensor and Maestro IV image processor. This duo combined with 8GB of buffer memory allows for incredible capturing speeds as well as superb image quality. This is double the amount of buffer memory available in the SL2-S, which means you’ll experience noticeable speed improvements for all operations, including startup time. Additionally, this improved processor provides a wide ISO sensitivity range from 50-100000.
Triple Resolution Technology
Choose between 60, 36, or 18MP output while still utilizing the full sensor area with Leica’s Triple Resolution Technology. This unique pixel binning process allows you to capture DNG and JPEG files at smaller sizes while still benefiting from the sensor’s rich 14-bit color depth and 15-stops of dynamic range.

The function White Balance Adjustment allows the user to make custom adjustments to the sensor white point calibrated ex works. This adjustment will affect the automatic White Balance as well as the fixed presets (Film Style).
Lens detection now offers additional flexibility when using Leica-M lenses with 6-bit encoding. Even if the lens type is detected automatically, the user can now additionally select another lens type from the list of M lenses. The list is available for all profiles and will be included when profiles are exported to an SD card.
The Dust Protection function can now also be controlled via Leica FOTOS (Version 5.5.1 and higher)
In rare cases, the connection between the camera and smartphone was severed by the operating system during image downloads and could not be restored afterwards. This issue was resolved.
A bug was fixed where, in exposure bracketing with Auto ISO, the second and third shots were at times taken with unnecessarily high ISO values.
The issue, where images were sometimes misaligned after being transferred to the computer if the camera was quickly rotated from horizontal to vertical during shooting was fixed.
