Light Lens Lab announced a new 50mm f/1.9 “Rigid-ZS6” (Super Six) Dallmeyer lens vor M-mount (based on the Dallmeyer “Super Six” lens):

The Light Lens Lab 50mm f/1.9 “Rigid-ZS6” is the newest addition to the Rigid Series, combining the classic 50mm f/1.9 “Super-Six” optical formula (6 elements in 4 groups, double-Gaussian design with full-frame 135 coverage) with the proven mechanical platform of the existing 50mm f/2 Rigid lens to deliver the original’s expressive bokeh and classical color rendering while boosting center sharpness for modern digital sensors. It is offered in two versions: the standard Rigid-ZS6 and a low-contrast Rigid-ZS6* (marked with an asterisk on the front ring) that provides greater highlight/shadow detail and a more film-like tonal response based on community feedback. The lens features an f/1.9 maximum aperture with a preset diaphragm and half-stop clicks, a compact build measuring just 45 mm long × 54 mm in diameter and weighing approximately 263 g, a brass outer barrel with aluminum/brass internals, M-mount quick-change bayonet, 0.7 m to infinity focus range, E39 filter thread, and compatibility with an optional A42 clip-on hood.

Product Overview

The 50mm f/1.9 “Rigid-ZS6” is a reinterpretation of the original “Super-Six” optical formula, paired with the established mechanical platform of the 50mm f/2 “Rigid.” It is designed to preserve the unique rendering characteristics of the original lens while improving usability and performance on modern digital systems.

Key Features

  • Classic double-Gaussian optical design with refined tuning
  • Distinctive “Super-Six” rendering: expressive bokeh and classical color signature
  • Optimized for digital sensors with improved sharpness
  • Two rendering variants available:
    • Standard Version
    • Low-Contrast (“*”) Version with enhanced tonal latitude, closer to the original “Super-Six” rendering, suitable for film-photography aesthetics.
  • Brass outer barrel with aluminum and brass internal components
  • Fully in-house manufacturing for consistent quality control

“Rigid” Series Update

The “Rigid” Series continues our research into classic optical formulas, adapted into a unified mechanical platform. Following the 50mm f/2 “Rigid” and “Rigid-SPII,” this release further expands the system. Ongoing developments include additional formulas such as the 50mm f/1.9 “S5” and 50mm f/2 “Apochromat.”

Light Lens Lab will soon release a new 75mm f/2 “SP-II” lens for Leica M-mount. Please note that the informtion in this post is based on a prototype, and everything is subject to change before release (previous coverage of LLL lenses can be found here).

The Light Lens Lab 75mm f/2 SP II lens is based on the legendary Cooke Speed Panchro Series II, a classic cinema lens from the 1940s known for its distinctive soft, glowing “Cook look” and dreamlike quality, optimized by LLL for modern full-frame digital sensors while preserving that vintage Hollywood aesthetic:

Light Lens Lab will continue expanding the “SP-II” series with several other focal lengths:

  • 21mm
  • 28mm
  • 35mm
  • 50mm
  • 75mm
  • 90mm APO
  • 135mm SAPO

Additional information on the original Cooke Speed Panchro Series II lens:

  • History: The original Speed Panchro lenses were the industry standard for Hollywood motion picture production from the 1930s through the 1950s. They were used to shoot films such as Casablanca, The Sound of Music, Psycho, and The Godfather.
  • Produced by Taylor, Taylor & Hobson (now Cooke Optics) in Leicester, England.
  • Series II: The “Series II” designation refers to the updated versions released in the mid-20th century (specifically the 1940s-50s) which improved upon the original Series I designs.
  • Cinema to Stills: While the original was designed for 35mm motion picture film (which is roughly similar in frame size to APS-C/Super 35), the image circle of the 75mm version is large enough to cover full-frame photography sensors (Leica M format), making it a prime candidate for adaptation.

Light Lens Lab previously recreated the 50mm f/2 Speed Panchro II in M-mount – see coverage:

LLL 에서 조만간 공개할 75mm F2 SP II 렌즈에 대한 정보들이 공개됐습니다.

화각별로 출시가 되려나 보네요.

Cooke 의 SP 시리즈 II 를 모티브로 제작되는 렌즈군인데, 기대하고 계시는 분들이 계실 것 같습니다~
