Ralph Gibson’s Leica collection
Leica Store Lisse posted on their Facebook page the Leica collection of the photographer Ralph Gibson. Here are the details:
Today we would like to share a unique collection. A set of 7 cameras from the famous photographer Ralph Gibson. We made our debut photo book as a store with Gibson, where we were able to convince him to lose his distrust for digital cameras with the Leica Monochrom. The book ‘Mono’ is an ode to an unconventional camera he didn’t know he would love. There are no other photographers out there with this large amount of officially made cameras dedicated to him, let alone so many gathered in one unique collection. No items are sold separately.
1) The Leica MP: this one is quite unique as it has an 0.85 finder, features a black chrome finish (instead of the standard black paint) and a nice leatherette. Most uniquely, this camera had been used by Ralph Gibson himself and has a letter included from him personally. In an edition of 31/50
2) Another analog camera from this collection is the Leica M6 Titanium. In a photo series of famous people holding a Leica camera (same as previous post with Seal) Gibson is posed with this very Leica. Uniquely, it is the only Leica M6 titanium with an engraving.
3) On to another project we produced: the limited edition Leica Monochrom set. It is one of the largest limited edition sets ever produced with a Leica camera! It has an engraved silver M9 Monochrom, a 35mm Summilux with monochrome markings, a signed photograph by Ralph Gibson, a limited edition version of the ‘Mono’ book, a hand finished bag and a unique strap. Limited to 35 editions.
4) The next set is a prototype for a special edition with an even more unique lens. The black Leica (M9) Monochrom camera with engraved signature features the very 50mm lens that was used to create the pictures in the ‘Mono’ book and features his signature.
5) Another prototype in this collection is the M9 Monochrom camera that was the first made for the set mentioned before. It signifies as such with the marking 00/35.
6) The final analog camera is the Leica M7, which was gifted to him when he made a brochure for Leica (signed copy seen at the bottom of the first photograph).
7) The last camera is the most modern camera, the Leica M246 Monochrom prototype with signature engraving.
