Thypoch Unveils the Simera 21mm f/1.4 with a Minimum Focusing Distance of 0.23 Meters.
The Simera series has garnered attention for its refined performance and tactile design, winning the favor of vintage lens enthusiasts and modern creators alike. Building on the full-frame 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm f/1.4 lenses, Thypoch now presents a more cinematic yet versatile addition to the lineup: the Simera 21mm f/1.4. It blends the series’ practical multi-focal philosophy with the cinematic heritage of the Simera-C 21mm, bringing expressive depth, and visual drama to both still photography and filmmaking.
The 21mm focal length is a favorite in cinematic storytelling, known for its ability to show expansive spaces or dramatic details. From the days of Super 35 film to today’s full-frame cameras, this focal length has been loved for its calm yet slightly surreal look。Drawing on years of experience creating fast cinema lenses, Thypoch’ve brought the precision and depth of cinema optics into a lens made for everyday artistic use.
At its minimum focusing distance of 0.23m, it achieves bokeh effects comparable to those of a 50mm f/1.4 lens at 0.55m, offering both wide perspective and subject separation in tighter framing.
Engineered with full-frame coverage and a floating lens group, the floating focusing mechanism enhances close-up performance and ensures consistent sharpness from minimum focus distance to infinity, significantly reducing aberrations and field curvature. The Simera 21mm f/1.4 weighs just 427g and offers a rare combination of optical complexity, portability, and performance. With mounts available for Leica M and adaptability to Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, L, and Fujifilm X, it opens up a new realm of creative potential across systems
Simera 21mm f/1.4 brings the wide-angle perspective into the Simera series, combining an expansive field of view with careful optical refinement. Its optical formula includes 2 aspherical, 3 high-refractive index, and 3 extra-low dispersion elements that work together to suppress chromatic aberration and distortion across the frame, ensuring sharp, true-to-life rendering from edge to edge.
With an ultra-short minimum focusing distance of 0.23m, photographers can approach subjects closely while preserving a strong sense of environment, ideal for storytelling and dynamic composition. The fast f/1.4 aperture ensures excellent low-light performance and smooth tonal transitions, while the 14-blade iris produces soft, rounded bokeh with minimal onion ring artifacts.
True to the Simera series, this lens features the subtle tactile resistance at 0.7m that marks the effective rangefinder coupling limit, supporting intuitive focus confirmation in dynamic scenes. The Clicked and de-clicked aperture ring accommodates smooth transitions between stills and video, while the classic automatic depth-of-field indicator aids quick visualization of focus zones.
